People ask me about insanely high fruit prices in Japan all the time. The jumbo “Beautiful Princess” strawberries shown in this Fuji TV news clip are currently being sold for the ridiculous price of between $370 and $545 for a box of five strawberries. Extremely expensive fruit such as these berries are quite common in Japan, however they are considered novelty items. Think of it as shelling out big bucks for a nice bottle of wine you are going to give to someone as a thank you gift. No one pays these kinds of prices on fruit they are going to eat themselves, plenty of strawberries can be had at the supermarket for under five bucks.
