My friend Bryan snapped this shot on the platform ready to board the train. The man's shoe is off and his foot is taking a dip in a pool of his own vomit.
I tried three new ramen shops this weekend, here's my report:
Ramen Jun - Tonkotsu-shiyoyu (porkbone and soy sauce) broth is the highlight here. The soup was better than I expected, and my expectations were pretty high. Excellent use of toppings as well, the diced onions and dried nori seaweed were stellar additions. The nori here is not like the traditional dried nori that comes in paper thin pieces, instead it was clumped together and the flavor was a lot fresher. Two thumbs up.
Ramen Jun is about four minutes walking from the east exit of Kamata Station on the Keihin Tohoku Line. Phone: 03-5714-7255
Tetsuya - My friend Nami and her husband Tomoya knew I was a ramen freak so they took me to one of their favorite noodle spots, Tetsuya in Higashi Koenji. Tomoya grew up in Hokkaido and is another heavy hitter in the ramen department, we both share the same love for Sapporo style ramen. Testuya did not disappoint, as the noodles here were excellent, made from eggs and served a little hard. The soy sauce based broth was also tremendous. The noodles reminded me of the noodles from my favorite spot in Tokyo, Ramen Oyaji, another Sapporo style ramen joint.

Koujitsu - This Higashi Nakano spot is quite popular. Soy sauce based broth, marinated egg, fresh scallions, bamboo shoots, and a slice of nori. Simple, clean, extremely satisfying. Walk two minutes south from the station exit and you'll see it on your left.
